Once Again, I'm Back

I seem to have this love hate relationship with blogging. I can do it for awhile and then I get tired of putting the time into it. I think I need to make it more simple. From now on I will be posting simple updates about what is going on around the house. I've said this before and I haven't followed through, so we will see how it goes this time.

For the past six months or more I have really been getting into thrifting. I just love finding treasures that have been discarded.  I have decided to reopen Whatever is Lovely and concentrate more on selling vintage items that I have found in my thrifting journeys. If I make more cards or other creations, they will definitely go in the store, but right now I'm going to concentrate on vintage. I have also been selling some thrifted items on eBay that don't fit the Etsy demographic, but I do feel that my true love is with Etsy.


I've had items in my store for about two weeks and I've already had two sales. I'm excited about that because I have only listed 28 items.

My first sale was a variety of vintage clothes pins. I found them at Goodwill and threw them in my cart on the way out of the store. 

.My second sale was purchased less than 24 hours after I listed it. I found this fun mid century nut server at an estate sale last Sunday after church. I saw it in the ad and I convinced Jeremy to go by the sale on our way home. Luckily it was still there. After I got in the car, I was looking at the listings on Etsy and realized that I had forgotten to pick up the wood bowls that went with the orb. After we picked up some lunch, Jeremy drove me back to the sale and I snatched up the bowls.  I might have priced it to low, but I guess I'll learn for next time. Plus, it was encouraging to get a couple of sales under my belt this week.

New Water Pitcher

We just got home from a fabulous 10 day trip to Bellingham, WA to visit my Grandpa Pederson.  Grandpa has a friend, Donna, who volunteers at a thrift shop that helps the needy.  One day we went to visit Donna at the store and I found this cool vintage water pitcher. It really reminds me of my Fiestaware, so I brought it home.  (Thank you Southwest for your generous baggage allowance!)

 I have really been trying to drink more water lately and I found a post for Sassy Water on Pinterest, so I decided to give it a try.  Delicious! I have only had one glass this morning, but it was really full of flavor and very refreshing.  I think it will be great in the summertime.

I modified the instructions a little bit. They are so simple:

1 lemon

1/2 cucumber

10 mint leaves

1 pitcher of water

Chill overnight

I think next time I will only use 3/4 of a lemon so that the cucumber and mint stand out a little bit more.  Yum.

 

Lot's O' Food

I am titling today's post "Lot's O' Food" because that's what it seems like we've been doing lately; eating and eating and eating. Monday we went to Green Mill to celebrate Karin's birthday, Tuesday we were at the Twins game, last night we went to Dangerfields with Melissa and tonight we went to Salsa A LA Salsa with Jeremy's parents. Yipes! Not only are we going to gain tons of weight, but we are going to go broke too! I actually have some things planned to make at home, but it has just worked out better to go out. Next week we will have to get back on track. We also need to start working out again. It is so hard to get up in the morning and do it, but we need to start again.

When were were in Omaha for Easter we had planed to make a whole morning of visiting a fun shopping area that I saw in my Country Home magazine. We got up early and headed downtown to find that nothing opened up until 11:00am! I was so disappointed! We had planned to be on the road to CO by 12:00pm We were really surprised that they opened so late especially because Omaha was hosting the NCAA Tournament and there were tons of tourists around. We did find one antique store that was open and spent most of our time there. Here are a couple things that I found:

Jeremy found this cute cookie jar. I love that he knows exactly what I like. He even knew where it would go in the kitchen.

I also found this great green bowl. My and grandma use there bowls for their fruit. I'm glad that I found one too! It seems like most of the things in my kitchen are green. I need to start branching out in the colors that I buy, but most of the time green just calls to me.

Finally, we went to one more store and what did I find??? Jackpot! Lots and lots of old photos. Most of them were only .10 each!! Most of the time photos cost at least $1 each. Look for lots of fun projects coming up! I have already started some, but I haven't had a chance to take pictures yet.

We also found this cardboard cutout of Paris Hilton - it was $35! We couldn't believe it was that expensive! I took a couple of pictures of Jeremy with it and decided that we could live without it. Yesterday were were wishing that we would have bought it so that we could have snuck it into Eric and Sara's house when they were in Hawaii!

Tomorrow we are off to another Twins game! Go Twins!!! They won today with a homerun from Morneau. Hopefully we will get to see an exciting game.

Weekend Activities

This last weekend was a busy one!

I guess Friday night was low-key. We went to work out and then came home and watched tv until bedtime. It was a nice night.

Saturday we went to Jeremy's grandma's house in Cannon Falls to help clean out one of her bedrooms. Jeremy's sister Katie is going to be coming home from California to live with her. It was fun to hang out with his family. His mom, aunt and grandma and I had fun going through vintage clothes and fabric.

Here are some of the things that I got to take home. I can't wait to start creating some great stuff with all of this stuff! Above is a stack of the fabric and aprons that I got.

This is a small piece of a quilt that had long ago been ripped apart for another project. This piece is about a foot long. I have no idea what I'm going to do with it, but I thought it was so beautiful that I couldn't pass it up! It lookes like the whole thing was done by hand. I can't imagine how many hours it took to make a large quilt like this. I made a quilt when I was in 7th or 8th grade and it seemed to take forever! I did hand quilt it, but I just did a very simple block that wasn't very elaborate. I would love to know if this fabric was taken from old garments or flour sacks.

This is just a glimpse of a small apron that I got. It is really wrinkled and it needs to be washed. There are a couple of small rips, but I still think it is so sweet. I think I might hang it up somewhere in my kitchen.

I also got some fun old books; a Christmas book with songs and poems, "Self Instructor to Elocution" and "The Popular Ettequite Book." They will look great on the bookshelves in the living room.

We had an yummy meal of chili and homemade bread after we were done working. Carol and John got a bread machine for Christmas and they made an awesome, HUGE loaf of wheat bread. They had the machine do all of the mixing and rising and then they baked it in the oven. They said that their secret ingredient is oatmeal. I guess it makes it really moist??? It has really gotten me in the mood to make some homemade bread! I think I might ask my mom if I can borrow her bread machine to experiment. If anyone knows of any terrific recipes, please let me know!

Yesterday we went to church and after that Esther came over for lunch. Jeremy made us pancakes and bacon! Later we went to Sara and Eric's house for the SuperBowl. I brought homemade salsa and guacamole with chips and Sara had made tons of chicken wings with all different flavors of sauce. None of us were too into the game, but it gave us a good excuse to hang out.

As I read over this post it looks like all we did this weekend! I guess it was a good weekend. :)
